Mini L.T.D 1979

US$0,00

The last of the round nose 1098cc limited edition models was fittingly called the Mini LTD and appeared in an Afrikaans motoring journals price list for the first time in August 1979.The last time their price appeared in the journals price list was February 1980.

The L.T.D thus had a very short production span and although no production figures are known it is suspected that very few units were manufactured and sold. Definitely the smallest number of the five round nose limited edition/specials.

It took the Author Ryno Verster “A South African Mini Story” 3 years to finally track one down in real life after he learnt of its existence. The pleasant surprise of finally location one came when the Mini Owners Club of South Africa held thier celebration of the Mini’s 46th birthday at the South African Mint on the 25th August 2005.A lady attended the day’s festivities in a L.T.D she was the first owner unfortunately the body work was dented and several panels had been resprayed. The car had seen polish in its life yet all the factual data about this Unicorn Mini were on display.

The colour of these cars was called Moonlight”s Zircon Blue. The L.T.D has the same folding type sunroof with the plastic wind deflector like the other 1098cc limited editions and is a darkish blue on the L.T.D. The boot badge is the Mini Special rectangular boot badge with the golden back round on the “Special “script. On the wheels, silver with black indents (to simulate spokes) plastic wheel caps were used with the Leyland logo on the centre caps. The tail lamp cluster included reverse lights.

The interior contained several special features. The carpets were plush royal blue with plenty of sound proofing material. The seat were probable the main feature of the L.T.D model. The material was a shiny blue with cloth inserts to match the colour of the carpets. The same shiny blue material was also repeated on the door panels, rear panels ect..A black 3 spoke steering wheel with the Leyland logo on the centre cap was fitted. The interior also featured a dipping rear view mirror. The speedo has a black face and indicate kilometres per hour up to 140.

The example that we have for sale is probably the only running L.T.D in South Africa. The car has had an exterior blow over in the original colour. The seats and carpets have been redone in in the exact period correct colours and materials. The car is currently reflecting 92185km on the clock which appears quite correct taking into consideration the engine bay and motor condition. All the electrics and wiring are in perfect working order and are original. The car will be sold with the original wheels and plastic hubcaps. The sunroof is 100 % original with the wind deflector in perfect condition. The grill has been replaced with an original brand new factory grill. The door panels are all original and untouched as well as the dash. The car has been inspected with a fine tooth comb and there is no rust visible.

The body plate on the L.T.D specifies model number 1102BD,chassis number 501 3347 with an engine number 10H743J.
