Leyland Mini Panel Van 1976 Model

SOLD

Total production of the Mini Panel Van in its 19 year production span was 8796 units of which 3735 units were the first generation 848cc version with the balance of 5061 units been the 998cc unit. The discontinuation of the Mini Panel Van was due to the unsuccessful merger between the Stigma Corporation and British Leyland in 1979/1980.

The first generation 998cc all South African Manufactured engine was used until the end
of production in 1980.

The Mini MKII Panel Van was introduced with all the other Mini MKII models in December
1968.Since the Mini panel vans had the radiator grille unitary with the body, changes were not very noticeable. A review mirror was now standard and chromed mirrors replaced the black wing mounted mirrors. The steering wheel badge was bigger as the hooter had been moved to the indicator /headlight dipping stalk. The double sliding windows remained on all the Panel Vans and external door hinges also
remained on all Vans.

The Mini Panel Vans production only came to an end in 1980.This made its production period the longest ever of any Mini model in South Africa with very few changes to the model over the period of 19 Years.

The Mini Panel Van is probably the most remarkable Mini Model in terms of its South African History. The first 12 Mini Panel Vans were delivered to the AA in September 1961.By August 1967 the AA’s fleet had grown to a 130 of the Vans. The fleet further increased when the Mini MKII Vans were introduced in 1968.The Van on display in the AA Museum is a MKII version.
