The 2009 Mazda MX-5 is the closest thing to a reincarnated British roadster on the planet, albeit one with altogether better reliability, fit, and finish.
As the best-selling two-seat convertible sports car in history the MX-5 has been marketed globally, with production exceeding one million, as of early 2016.[2] The name Miata derives from Old High German for "reward"
The MX-5 Miata Debuts! At the Chicago Motor Show in 1989.
After soliciting design proposals from its Japanese and American operations, Mazda picks the American option, which becomes the production MX-5 Miata. Unlike the Tokyo proposal, which was mid-engine, rear-drive like Toyota's contemporary MR2, and the front-drive sketch from Hiroshima, the product of Mazda's American design studio boasts a classic British sports-car layout: It is rear-drive, with its engine in front.
With fantastic handling and an optional power-folding hardtop, the 2009 Mazda MX-5 Miata brings the classic roadster into the modern era. 2009 was also the 20th anniversary of the Miata, and to celebrate Mazda refreshed the MX-5’s exterior and interior styling, increased its performance, bettered its fuel consumption, and added two new exterior colours.
The MX-5 has won awards, including Wheels Magazine’s Car of the Year for 1989, 2005 and 2016;Sports Car International’s "best sports car of the 1990s" and "ten best sports cars of all time"; 2005–2006 Car of the Year Japan; and 2005 Australian Car of the Year. The Miata has also made Car and Driver magazine's annual 10 Best list 17 times. In their December 2009 issue, Grassroots Motorsports magazine named the Miata as the most important sports car built during the previous 25 years.
In 2009, English automotive critic Jeremy Clarkson wrote:
The fact is that if you want a sports car, the MX-5 is perfect. Nothing on the road will give you better value. Nothing will give you so much fun. The only reason I’m giving it five stars is because I can’t give it fourteen.
The example that we have for sale comes with all the creature comforts such as Comfort/keyless access, comfort/keyless start, traction control, xenon headlights, brown leather upholstery, Bose sound system, multi-functional steering wheel controls, radio/CD, electric-adjust mirror, remote central locking, air conditioning, electric windows, power steering, driver airbag, passenger airbag, anti-lock braking system (abs), front fog lamps/lights, 17" alloy wheels/rims.
