Volkswagen Kombis are seen almost everywhere, in places as disparate as Sweden, Indonesia, Brazil, Nigeria, Canada, Lebanon and Kenya. They cross the Sahara in temperatures over 50°C and equally happily inhabit the sub-zero lands inside the Arctic Circle. They operate without complaint below sea level and in mountain passes over 3000 m. They are nimble in traffic, exciting in twisting mountain roads, able to cruise relatively fast on the open road and can still take a punishing in rough conditions.

In late 1967, the second generation of the Volkswagen Type 2 (T2) was introduced. It was built in Germany until 1979.

As one of the forerunners of the modern cargo and passenger vans, the Type 2 gave rise to forward control which included the 1947–1981Citroen H Van the 1959–1980 Renault Estafette ( both with FF layout), and the 1953–1965 FR layout Ford Transit. The Type 2, along with the 1947 Citroen H Van are among the first 'forward control' vans in which the driver was placed above the front roadwheels

The VW "pickup" in both single and double cab versions had a bed/floor that was flat from front to back at the height of the engine compartment cover, which had the advantage of a flat load floor. This configuration also eliminated the inner fender wells that protruded into the loading area in most other pickups. Finally, to make good use of the space beneath the elevated bed floor, Volkswagen offered optional "toolbox" compartments with locking doors, that were perfect for storing tools and materials safely.

One of the most unique features of the Volkswagen pickup was that all three sides of the bed were actually hinged "gates" that could be unlatched and folded down to provide a conveniently flat surface that could be loaded without having to lift the cargo up over the sides of the bed. No other pickup on the market at the time had offered this unique and practical design.

Classic Volkswagen Single Cab and Double Cab pickups are as popular today as they were back in the day, because of their great style and proportions, as well as their practicality.

Brazil contained the last factory in the world that produced the T2 series of Type 2, which ceased production on 31 December 2013

Wearing its original exterior colour combination, the pick-up underwent a major restoration in 2013 that took approximately 12 months to complete by a True VW Expert. The body was fully stripped, and some metalwork was replaced but the truck was basically very sound. The engine was replaced with an air cooled 2, 0 litre variant and fitted with twin 36mm Webber Carbs.

The brakes, suspension and running gear were fully rebuilt/restored using existing parts where possible or otherwise brand-new parts. It was fitted with a brand-new interior, steering wheel, door frames and handles.

The vehicle has been in daily use by its owner since the restoration and only used to carry wood for his cabinet business.

Overall, it is in spectacular condition and drives "perfectly”. This is a wonderful period motorsport support vehicle or an ideal business promotion tool turning heads wherever it goes.
